Chesmar Foundation Teaching Scholarship
Distributions from the Fund will be used to provide scholarship awards covering tuition, ACP certification, and Open+ Books for students who intend to pursue a four-year Bachelor of Applied Science in Education at San Jacinto College and are enrolled in one of the following programs of study:
- Associate of Applied Science in Child Development; or
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Education.
Scholarship recipients must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours per semester.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in program-specific coursework. (Students without a minimum GPA of 2.5 will have two semesters to meet the minimum GPA requirement.)
- Recipients will need to be registered for each semester 20 calendar days before the start of classes.
- Recipients can be either an in-district or out-of-district student; however, awards for out-of-district students may not exceed the equivalent in-district tuition rate.
- Scholarships will be awarded for one continuous academic year and may be renewed annually, subject to the recipient’s continued eligibility and compliance with the established scholarship criteria. Scholarship recipients who do not persist to the next long semester will be required to submit a petition for consideration of continued funding.
Recipients will be selected in accordance with the College’s established procedures for awarding need-based scholarships.
As a condition of receiving the scholarship, recipients will be required to sign a pledge committing to work as an educator in a local school district for a minimum of three (3) years following completion of their degree.
