Dr. Brian Bradley Endowed Scholarship

Dr. Brian Bradley Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Brian Bradley Endowed Scholarship was created by colleague and trusted friend, Dr. David Stein. This scholarship honors the memory and legacy of Dr. Brian Bradley.

Dr. Bradley was born April 19, 1946, in Lisburn, North Ireland, the youngest of the eight children of John and Mary Bradley. Dr. Bradley earned his medical degree in 1969 from Queen’s University in Belfast. Following his internship at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, he pursued further study in Internal Medicine, with specialization in the field of Pulmonary Medicine and Critical/Intensive Care.

In 1974 Dr. Bradley came to Houston and joined the Internal Medicine /Pulmonary Medicine division teaching faculty at University of Texas Medical School. After several years in academics, Dr. Bradley felt the need to establish a more direct relationship with his patients and entered private medical practice with Dr. David Stein. Together they founded the Lung Center. They remained loyal colleagues and trusted friends for 35 years until Dr. Bradley was forced by illness to retire and withdraw from the care of his beloved patients.

In his personal life, Dr. Bradley led a very simple life. He never married, but lived the life of a dedicated physician, in humble surroundings, married only to the welfare of his patients. He was incredibly generous, quietly helping those in need. He loved Houston and enjoyed quiet walks in Hermann Park, attending and singing along at the many performances of the Messiah and Miller Outdoor Theatre. Even in illness he refused to leave and live with family, staying in his beloved Houston.

Dr. Bradley was an outgoing, gregarious, energetic companion who loved the company of friends, especially if there were music or a sing-along involved! And he was truly in his element back home among folks in Ireland!
Throughout his medical career, his thirst for knowledge never ceased. He developed interests in and became an expert in many fields of medicine. The many medicine areas in which he became expert give testimony to the extent of his study, knowledge, and dedication to his profession and to his patients.
Dr. Bradley found time to volunteer in his community and was a founding member of the Pasadena Citizens’ Council and served as operations officer to the Houston Medical Strike Team.
Dr. Brian Bradley passed on May 22, 2015, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Through this scholarship fund, he will never be forgotten.
