David Waters Scholarship
David Dean Waters was born in Brownwood, Texas on February 10, 1943, and grew up in west Texas. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1962 and went to work as a barber in Houston, Texas (1959). He returned to Houston after serving in the United States Air Force and attended Lydia Houston Beauty School (1969). He worked as a hairdresser for JC Penny, ran multiple salons, and was the president of Cosmetron Corporation, which oversaw the creation of cosmetics and skin care products.
Mr. Waters graduated from cosmetology instructor training at San Jacinto College Central in 1976 and took over as acting department chair of the cosmetology program. He was then hired as an inspector and state board examiner by the Texas Cosmetology Commission. He returned to San Jacinto College South as a cosmetology instructor in 1983, where he taught cosmetology until his retirement in 2021.
Mr. Waters earned an Associate of Arts from San Jacinto College in 1985, a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M in 1989, and a Master of Science from the University of Houston.
Mr. Waters continued to be a devoted supporter to the Cosmetology industry, San Jacinto College and the SJC Foundation until his passing on November 10, 2023.
