John P. McGovern Foundation

John P. McGovern Foundation

The late John P. McGovern was a pediatrician, allergist, immunologist, educator and philanthropist. He established the McGovern Allergy and Asthma Clinic in Houston, Texas, created the Texas Allergy Research Foundation and the John P. McGovern Foundation and co-founded the American Osler Society.

In 1961, McGovern established the John P. McGovern Foundation as a private charity. Through the Foundation, the McGovern Family has given millions of dollars to various local and health charities including San Jacinto College Foundation. Each year, through the generosity of the John P. McGovern Foundation, funding is made available to many deserving SJC nursing students.

Dr. McGovern once said, ‘We physicians are a privileged lot — privileged to serve, to share the human drama of our patients, and to contribute to their health and well-being. To be properly educated to practice his or her art, it is essential that knowledge of science be supplemented by familiarity with the humanities’."
